Life

It is August. I can't believe it. Christmas is almost here... okay I guess we still have a few months but that it what it feels like!

I have been thinking a lot lately about my life and I feel it is time for a change. Having a baby {beautifully} changes everything that you are used to. But now that Benton is 4 months old and on a pretty good schedule that works for him at this age, I think it is time that I start putting back in my life some of the things I left behind and add some new things.

Now don't get me wrong, my family still takes first priority, I am just talking about making better use of the times that I have to work with such as Benton's naps, after he has gone to sleep, or when Dallin has him. And of course I am getting better and doing things when he is awake and just playing on the floor. But still most of my time will be used to take care of my family, and I love that.

I decided that with this new month I would make some goals and see how it goes. Here are a few of the things that I want to do with my time

  • Run. Yes, I want to run. I am never going to fit into my pre-pregnancy jeans if I don't do something about it. I went running last night and it felt so good! And I ran further than I was expecting too (still not that far but it was my first time in over a year). I would like to run 4 times a week.
  • Read. I need to start reading my scriptures again. I am very sad to say that I let it go for so long, but am excited to start it up again.
  • Sew. This isn't new, I love sewing. It has been great starting this up again.
  • Cook. This is my new found passion. I enjoy cooking dinner, but I LOVE making desserts and appetizers. Why? Because they look so good! I am weird that way, if I make a dessert it HAS to look pretty. Granted it doesn't always look the best the first time I make it, but I learn a lot to make it look better the next time. And of course it has to taste good too. I made some eclairs for my sister yesterday {Happy Birthday Tonya!}, it was great fun.
  • Save. I read on a blog that a friend of mine has a grocery budget of $150 a month. Wow. I try to stick around $250 and felt pretty good about that, until I heard this. Granted this was including stocking up on food to slowing build up our food storage. So I got to thinking and have decided to try and cut our food budget. I haven't decided to what amount yet, maybe just the best I can. Plus I want to try to cut back in other areas too. I will probably let you know how this is going once a week. If you have ANY suggestions on ways to save money please leave a comment and let me know. I do already coupon and will do better with this.
Those are good to start with. Well Benton just woke up and he is awfully snugly so I am going to go enjoy :)

Have a great Sunday and don't forget to let me know how you save money.

  1. First of all, We eat really simply. I try and alternate between pasta, rice, potato, and "other" dishes. "other dishes" are anything that doesn't fit in the other categories, such as mexican food, pizza, breakfast for dinner, etc.
Secondly, we only eat hamburger, chicken, and pork. (and eggs and beans) (and we don't pork out on meat. we eat 3 oz each or so.) We dont' eat steak or fish. I hardly ever buy pot roast either. As a rule, I dont' spend more than $2/lb on meat. I try not to spend more than $1.50/lb. (So I stock up & freeze it in portion sizes when it is this price). This is getting harder to do because prices are going up. I am lucky because a store close to me often has boneless dark chicken meat for 99 cents a pound! So we eat that. I actually prefer dark to light. If boneless isn't on sale, I might buy boney leg/thighs for 49 cents/lb, then cook it in the crockpot & shred it (save the broth!) And for pork, until this year, I have been able to buy boneless pork ribs for 1.49/lb. I have 2 meals I like. 1. bbq pork sandwiches. 2. Homemade costa vida/ cafe rio. Both are super easy& use 2-3 ingredients.
Third, I only buy cheap veggies (broccoli, carrots, onions, potatoes)
Fourth, The meals I make are cheap. $2-4 per meal. Total. They do taste good, but they aren't exotic.
Fifth. I buy cereal when it is $1/box. This happened alot this year.
Sixth, some weeks I only spend $15 on the basics and we eat what I stocked up on.
Lastly, read some old posts (starting in May)from this blog.
